Sharpening gouges with the lathe

This system is a valid solution in the event of an away match or flea market. When we travel we can’t always bring our whole laboratory, but at the same time, it will be essential to be able to sharpen our gouges.

We cannot have a steel casing to protect the wheel on the lathe, therefore we can only put a CBN wheel with a metal body on the lathe.

Grinding wheels in agglomerate, aluminum oxides, etc. cannot be mounted because with the slightest blow (for example transport) they can explode once launched at speed.

During the sharpening phase, we recommend protecting the bed of the lathe with a pad so that it does not fill up with steel sharpening.

Super abrasive CBN grinding wheel

The Super-Abrasive CBN (Borazon) Ø 150x20x32 B91 wheel is a technology mainly used in industrial production. Characterized by an abrasive specially designed for alloy steels such as HSS, it allows accurate sharpening in a short time. Used dry at the recommended rotation speed of 1400 ÷ 2900 rpm, it allows you to exploit the quality of the wheel. The metal support of the grinding wheel allows the sharpening heat to be dissipated well, the increase in speed generates a better-sharpened surface but also an increase in heat which could overheat the gouge edge, it is advisable to have a light hand.
